Our long-term research agenda is to understand the long-term use and care of digital artifacts. With people spending more time in digital world, how does the advent of the digital age change the opportunities and issues associated with memory?

To investigate these issues, we have conducted 17 interviews about memory in domestic environments - including heirlooms, souvenirs, photographs and correspondence, collections, and their digital analogs. By walking through interviewees' home, observing and listening to how they deal with these objects and why, we are examining how these objects play different roles in people's lives.

Our findings focus on the interpretation of collective memory practices, personal values, biographical trajectories, and the presentation of self.
